History of the Friends of EFNA

In the summer of 2024, a shared joy of nature and education brought together a group of like-minded people at Don and Jane Streubel’s home. The initial spark for what would become the Friends of the Edson Fichter Nature Area was lit during a series of spirited meetings. The enthusiasm was contagious with this dedicated group. We secured the green light from Idaho Fish and Game in forming a non-profit. Help was extended to us from the leader at Friends of MK Nature Center and Harriman State Park in writing the bylaws and shaping the organizational structure. We navigated the challenges necessary to become a non-profit with Employer Identification Number (EIN), developed bylaws, and secured federal tax-exempt status 501(c)(3) with the IRS. With the non-profit status confirmed, planning for educational activities quickly took center stage. The journey of the Friends of EFNA is a testament to community spirit and the shared love for our natural environment.
