Here are some photos from Saturday’s May 17, 2025 Bioblitz which was organized by the Friends of the Edson Fichter Nature Area. The event included guided nature walks by local naturalists, demonstrations of the iNaturalist app, and information booths by a variety of organizations. 30 observers contributed 363 observations of 120 species. Sarah Jackson, Eric Rude, Maria Pacioretty, Jennifer Jackson, Don and Jane Streubel, and I have been planning this event since last fall. Thanks to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and Idaho Master Naturalists for all of their help and to all of the event participants. – Chuck Peterson
The Friends of the Edson Fichter Nature Area invite the public to join local nature experts for a free, fun-filled day of exploration and discovery at the Edson Fichter Nature Area first BioBlitz on Saturday, May 17. This community science event began at 8 a.m. with birding, followed by plants all animals and last invertebrate activities giving participants the chance to observe and document the rich diversity of life in this beloved natural space.
“A BioBlitz is a collaborative event where volunteers, scientists, and community members team up to record as many species as possible in a specific location within a limited time. Participants learn how to identify and record different species using the iNaturalist app while contributing valuable data to help preserve local ecosystems
“This is was an opportunity for families, students, and nature lovers to engage with local biodiversity and learn from passionate experts Participants came away with a deeper appreciation for the wildlife in our backyard.”
